Acceptable Use Policy

The conduct we will not host, plus how we enforce it.

Effective ·

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to anyone who accesses the Peerlify service (the "Service"), including Owners, Admins, Members, end users, and visitors to peerlify.com. It is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. By using the Service, you agree not to engage in the prohibited conduct described below and to ensure that your Members do not either.

Enforcement is metadata-based.

Peerlify cannot inspect the content of network traffic carried by the Service — peer-to-peer tunnels are end-to-end encrypted and relays only see ciphertext. We enforce this AUP based on metadata, abuse reports from third parties, and information from law-enforcement or court orders. Owners are responsible for the conduct of their Members.

1. Scope

This AUP supplements the Terms of Service and applies to every use of the Service, whether by you or by anyone using your credentials. Suspected violations may be reported to abuse@peerlify.com.

2. Prohibited content

You may not use the Service to host, store, transmit, or distribute:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any sexual content involving minors. We report CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Centre, and other appropriate authorities.
  • Content that incites or threatens violence, that depicts violence in a manner that glorifies it, or that is intended to terrorize.
  • Content that promotes or facilitates illegal activity, including the sale of controlled substances, illegal firearms or explosives, or human trafficking.
  • Content that infringes another person's intellectual property rights, including pirated software, films, music, or counterfeit goods.
  • Material that is defamatory, fraudulent, or knowingly false in a way that is intended to deceive.
  • Material whose distribution is unlawful in the user's jurisdiction or the jurisdiction where the data is stored.

3. Prohibited activity

You may not use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, court order, or third-party right.
  • Harass, stalk, dox, or threaten any person, or facilitate any of the foregoing.
  • Send spam, phishing, or other bulk unsolicited communications, including in violation of Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), CAN-SPAM, the e-Privacy Directive, or equivalent.
  • Distribute malware, ransomware, spyware, rootkits, droppers, or other malicious code; operate a command-and-control channel for malicious software; or stage, exfiltrate, or pre-position data for an attack on a third party.
  • Engage in fraud, money laundering, identity theft, or activity sanctioned under Canadian, U.S., U.K., or E.U. economic-sanctions laws.
  • Misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or the source of traffic, including by impersonating Peerlify, our staff, or another user.
  • Resell, sublicense, or repackage the Service without our prior written consent.

4. Security violations

You may not:

  • Attempt to probe, scan, test the vulnerability of, or breach the security or authentication of the Service, Peerlify infrastructure, or any other user's network, except under our published responsible-disclosure program.
  • Bypass or attempt to bypass rate limits, plan caps, geofencing, or access controls.
  • Forge any TCP/IP packet header, email header, or otherwise tamper with protocol metadata, except where strictly required for legitimate security research conducted on your own systems.
  • Interfere with the integrity or proper operation of the Service — for example, by overwhelming it with traffic, exhausting connection or socket quotas, or running automated scripts at a frequency that disrupts other users.
  • Access the Service through automated tooling other than the official client and API in a manner that materially deviates from documented use.

Authorized security research is welcome through our responsible-disclosure program.

5. Network and resource abuse

You may not use the Service to:

  • Conduct, originate, or participate in a denial-of-service or distributed denial-of-service attack against any party, including reflection or amplification attacks.
  • Generate traffic at a rate that disrupts Peerlify relays, other customers' networks, or third-party services. Relay capacity is a shared resource; sustained, abusive saturation is grounds for suspension.
  • Operate open mail relays, open proxies, open recursive DNS resolvers, or other services that allow unauthenticated third parties to send traffic of their choosing.
  • Scan or probe any network without explicit, written authorization from the owner.

6. Cryptocurrency mining and arbitrage

You may not use the Service for cryptocurrency mining, proof-of-work computation, or similar high-CPU activities whose primary purpose is to extract economic value unrelated to operating your business. You also may not use the Service to arbitrage, resell, or proxy access to third-party services in violation of those services' terms.

7. Exit points and traffic relaying

Peerlify supports exit points and subnet routers as a legitimate operational feature. You are responsible for the traffic that exits your network, and you may not use exit points to:

  • Circumvent another service's terms of use, sanctions or export controls, or geofencing.
  • Anonymize traffic for the purpose of attacking, scanning, or defrauding third parties.
  • Provide access to the Service to unrelated third parties as if Peerlify were an open VPN provider.

8. High-risk and regulated uses

The Service is not designed for life-critical, real-time control of physical infrastructure (e.g. nuclear, aviation, medical life-support). Do not use the Service in those contexts without a written exception from us. If you are subject to a specific regulatory regime (HIPAA, PCI DSS, FedRAMP, ITAR, CJIS, etc.), contact us before placing regulated data on the Service so we can confirm whether the appropriate contract addenda and configuration are in place.

9. Reporting abuse

If you believe a Peerlify network or user is violating this AUP, report it to abuse@peerlify.com. Include the IP address, timestamp (with time zone), any relevant log excerpts, and a description of the activity. For child-safety concerns we will act within hours; other reports are triaged within one business day.

For copyright complaints under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act or equivalent Canadian notice-and-notice procedures, send a notice to legal@peerlify.com. Counter-notices may be sent to the same address.

10. Enforcement

We take a graduated approach. For non-urgent violations we will normally notify the Owner and ask for remediation. For urgent risk — active attack, CSAM, sanctions exposure, court order — we may suspend the affected Network or device immediately and without prior notice. Repeated or serious violations result in termination.

Where the law requires it, we will preserve relevant records and respond to lawful requests from competent authorities. Our process for legal requests is summarized in our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes

We may update this AUP from time to time. The "Updated" date at the top of the page tracks the current version. Material changes will be announced in the Service or by email at least 15 days before they take effect.
