Sign in with Google

How Google sign-in works for personal Google accounts and Google Workspace, who owns your Workspace network, and how Workspace admins allow Peerlify.

Nothing on this page changes with your selection.

Continue with Google on the sign-in page signs you in with a Google account. Peerlify reads your name, your email address, whether Google has verified it, and, for a Google Workspace account, your Workspace domain.

Personal Google accounts

A personal account, such as a gmail.com address, gets a network named after you, with you as its Owner. It never joins anyone else's network automatically; others add you with an invite.

Google Workspace accounts

A Workspace account also gets its own network, and joins your Workspace's network, found by your Workspace domain. Only accounts whose email address Google has verified join it.

  • Who creates it. The first person from the Workspace to sign in creates it and becomes its Owner. Google doesn't tell Peerlify who your Workspace administrators are, so if you want an administrator to own it, have them sign in first.
  • Who joins. Colleagues who sign in later join as Member. If Manual user approval is on, they wait until an admin approves them (see Approve new members). Raise someone's role on the Members page.
  • A network without an Owner stays without one; a later sign-in never makes anyone its Owner.
  • Your domain stays free. The Workspace network never claims your domain for single sign-on or for the domain lookup on the sign-in page, so you can still set up single sign-on for it.

Leaving, and removing people

Google doesn't tell Peerlify when someone leaves your Workspace. A person whose Google account you delete or suspend can't sign in with it any more, but stays a member of the network until you remove them. Remove them on the Members page: the removal sticks, so their later sign-ins don't add them back until they accept an invite. See Remove a device or a person.

For Workspace admins: allow Peerlify

If your Workspace restricts which third-party apps can use Google sign-in, Google usually stops on its own error page with Error 400: admin_policy_enforced, and the person never gets back to Peerlify. Only if Google sends them back does the Peerlify login page say that your Workspace administrator hasn't allowed Peerlify. To allow it, in the Google Admin console go to Security → Access and data control → API controls → Manage Third-Party App Access → Add app → OAuth App Name Or Client ID, find Peerlify, and set it to Trusted or Limited.

If sign-in fails

See Sign-in and enrollment problems for every message the login page shows and its fix.

Limits

  • Google groups aren't synchronized; roles are managed on the Members page.
  • Automatic user and group provisioning from Google Workspace isn't available yet. User and group provisioning supports Microsoft Entra ID and Okta.
